Research Engineer (Intern)

Institut de physique et chimie des Matériaux de Strasbourg — Strasbourg, France

Research Institute in Materials Science

The IPCMS is a research institute in Strasbourg, France, that focuses on the study of materials and their properties, with a particular emphasis on nanomaterials and their applications in various fields, including electronics, energy, and biomedicine. In this context, I worked on a project related to organic photovoltaicss, and there application in the industry

  • Perform simulations using COMSOL to find the optimal characteristics for a magnetic
  • Experimenting by time-resolved fluoreschence spectroscopy, using a femtosecond laser, and analyzing the results (Originlab) to understand the behavior of organic molecules in photovoltaic applications
  • Identifying best suited molecule from a variety of molecules, to be used in organic photovoltaics, based on their fluorescence properties and behavior under different conditions

Projects

Homelab

This project is a personal homelab setup that I built to learn and experiment with various technologies. It includes a variety of servers and services, such as a web server, database server, file server, and media server. I used Docker for containerization. The homelab is designed to be scalable and flexible, allowing me to easily add or remove services as needed. I also implemented monitoring and logging solutions to keep track of the performance and health of the system.

  • Integrated a custom DNS Server using Adguard Home to block ads and trackers across all devices in the network
  • Implemented a centralized routing solution using Traefik as a reverse proxy to manage incoming traffic and route it to the appropriate services
  • Set up a monitoring and alerting system using Prometheus and Grafana to visualize metrics and receive notifications for any issues in the homelab environment
  • Configured a secure VPN solution using WireGuard to allow remote access to the homelab network while maintaining privacy and security

Building an ERP System

This project is an enterprise resource planning system leveraging multiple entreprise grade open source solutions. It includes Frappe ERPNext as the main ERP system, Nextcloud as the file sharing and collaboration platform, and Keycloack as the authentication server. The system is designed to streamline business processes, improve collaboration, and enhance productivity. I used Docker for containerization, ECS for orchestration, and Terraform for infrastructure as code. The system is deployed on AWS and uses GitHub Actions for continuous integration and continuous deployment.

  • Cloudfront allows to serve the application with low latency and high transfer speeds anywhere in the world
  • Added a COTURN server to enable WebRTC communication for real-time video and audio conferencing via Nextcloud Talk
  • Implemented a secure authentication system using Keycloak for single sign-on (SSO) across all integrated applications
  • Integrated Onlyoffice as the document editing suite within Nextcloud, allowing users to simultaneously create and edit documents directly in the browser

Building a Booking App for a dental clinic

This project is a booking application for a dental clinic. It allows patients to book appointments online, view available time slots, and receive reminders for their appointments. The application also includes a backend system for the clinic staff to manage appointments and patient information. I used Django for the backend, React for the frontend, and PostgreSQL for the database. The application is deployed via a Github Actions pipeline on AWS Fargate and uses Docker for containerization.

  • Self-initiated project to improve patient experience and streamline clinic operations.
  • Implemented a secure authentication system for patients and staff.
  • Integrated email notifications for appointment confirmations and reminders.
  • Designed a responsive user interface for both desktop and mobile devices.
